Connected wirelessly but no internet windows 7

I discovered the resolution that worked for me and thought I would share it. Perhaps someone can add their knowledge of the root cause of the problem. I use a laptop that is a DHCP client. I had logged into it this morning and everything was working fine - internet access, email, etc.

I could ping my gateway and internal sites and servers email was fine but I could not get out to google or any other EXTERNAL site even though I was just browsing them a few minutes ago. I had already updated my nic drivers a few weeks ago and nothing had changed on my laptop recently - no updates, no new software or hardware, etc. I had also noticed that my time was not synced with the DC so I decided to disjoin and rejoin the domain.

That fixed the issue for me. Any ideas what I should look for to get at the root cause of the problem? How would that prevent me from browsing the internet even with a valid IP stack? I could still browse my local subnet. I discovered the problem but forgot to update this post sorry. The problem ended up being our firewall had IP Shunning enabled temporarily. Since I was a network admin I would ping servers, etc.

The firewall considered my laptop a threat and shunned it. Have your firewall admin just confirm that was not set for yours. I've often seen issues with IE refusing to load a page if the local time and date are incorrect, it sees this as a security issue.

Were time, date very much out of sync? Try the first two commands as administrator cmd prompt Just a thought, perhaps your network cable is bad? Once is a while it happens and we tend to overlook it Thanks for the replies but nothing changed - AD wise or laptop wise.

Just all of a sudden I was unable to browse the internet only and had the yellow "! We have no web filters that look at AD. We use websense to block websites based on their content or category. How could a bad cable prevent you from accessing the internet only?

I could browse everthing on my internal network. I even had an RDP session open to a server so I could get to the internet to see if I had the latest network drivers.

It's a corporate computer - we do not install anything without our IT team testing and deploying it. None of the other users are having this issue. Our IT guy has given up trying to figure out what the problem is - he says everything is working correctly and yet I've tried using the Network Troubleshooter, but like most troubleshooters.

I think it usually ends up on a generic Help page that says to restart everything computer, router, the internet Unfortunately, Windows and Office Help isn't as helpful as it was 10 years ago you'd think it would be better not worse. I have the same question Report abuse. Details required :. Cancel Submit. Previous Next. Palcouk Volunteer Moderator. I saw my problem show up when a patch was applied to my laptop. I backed it out and the problem went away. Later I installed some Microsoft patches and the problem came back. Here is the issue I am seeing:. When I first bring up the system the WIFI is never turned on automatically, as it is supposed to be and as it used to do prior to the patch.

I have to select the icon in the system tray, which shows the WIFI as of to turn it on. It does so for all for about 5 seconds, just long enough to attach to the network, and then it turns itself off again!

I then have to do this a second time and that one will work. It also turns itself off when any device changes are made to the system, such as plugging in or removing a USB flash drive. I sometimes see it turn itself off when my screensaver has been running for a while, but it has to have been for quite a while, say at least 20 minutes. I have completely disabled it being powered off by Windows, so it shouldn't ever be turning this off unless I tell it to. I have verified I am on the latest version of their drivers.

I am open to any suggestions. Right now it seems my only option is to backout the last set of patches from Microsoft, because I don't know just which one causes the problem, and ignore all other patches that are made available. That is not a good solution, because it means I will be ignoring possible security and bug fixes that I actually do need.

I wanted to thank you all for the active discussion in this thread, and I would like to jump in and see if I can help address the multiple issues that seem to be covered in here.
